공부나 무언가를 배울 때 쓸 수 있는 말들이지요.

오늘도 문장안에서 배워볼까요?

 

 

 

다같이 등산을 갔는데 너무 창피했어요.

We all went hiking together. It was so (really )embarrassing.

 

 

제가 체력이 그렇게 딸리는지 (미쳐) 몰랐어요.

I didn't realize that I was in such  poor shape.

 

 

처음에는 할 만했는데

I mean, it wasn't so bad at first

 

 

다른(나머지) 사람들 속도를 못따라가고

but  I just couldn't keep up with the others (rest)

 

 

계속 뒤쳐졌어요.

and I kept falling behind.

 

 

심지어 따라잡으라고 몇 번 멈춰주기까지 했는데

They even stopped several times so (that) I could catch up 

 

 

 

내가 모두를 너무 지체시켜서

But I was slowing everyon down so much that 

 

 

결국은 (그냥) 포기하고 내려왔어요.

, eventually,  I just quit and turned back.

 

 

 

<활용>

 

keep up with = catch up with  따라가다 따라잡다 같지만  keep up with 가 쓰이는 범위가 더 넓네요.

 

 

keep up with 

I couldn't keep up with all the changes.

 모든 변화들을 따라갈 수가 없었어.

 

 

My children love to keep up with the latest fashion.

최신유행을 따라하는 것을 좋아해요.

 

 

My daughter is struggling to keep up with her schoolwork.

학교 공부를 따라가는라 애쓰고 있어요.

 

 

My son has long legs.  When we went downtown, I was huffing and puffing to keep up with him.

걔를 따라가느라 헉헉댔어요.

 

 

 

Catch up with 

Go on ahead. I'll catch up with you.

 먼저가. 곧 따라갈게

 

 

One of my student missed classes several times because of her heathy problem. 

So she had to work hard to catch up with the others.

따라자잡기 위해 열심히 공부해야했어요.
